A. Designer Platform Terms of Use
Plain-English summary: What the Designer Platform provides, how customer accounts and generated files work, and the checks customers must make.
1. Who we are and these terms
The Designer Platform is supplied by Benchdogs Ltd, trading as Benchdog Tools (company number 11850001, VAT number GB 326191119), whose registered office is Unit 1, Walronds Park, Isle Brewers, Taunton, TA3 6QP. In these terms, “Benchdogs”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Benchdogs Ltd. “DesignSeeBuild” and the “Benchdogs Designer Platform” describe the shared software platform on which the Cabinet Designer and future design tools operate. The legal relationship between those names is a matter for owner confirmation before production publication; your contract is with Benchdogs Ltd.
These terms apply when you access or use a Designer, save a design or obtain a generated output. Additional terms may apply to Design Credits, a Manufacturing Pack, a beta programme, a reseller claim or a particular future Designer. We will show applicable terms before the relevant action.
2. Eligibility, consumers and businesses
You must be at least 18 and capable of entering a contract. If you use the Platform for a company or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind it. A “consumer” is an individual acting wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession. Business terms do not apply to consumers merely because they are skilled makers.
3. Accounts and security
The Platform uses the existing Benchdogs Shopify customer identity. You must provide accurate information, protect access to your email and Shopify account, and tell us promptly at hello@benchdogs.co.uk if you suspect unauthorised use. Do not share an invitation or authenticated session with another person. You remain responsible for activity you authorise; this does not make you responsible for loss caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill.
4. Designer services and customer information
A Designer converts the dimensions, materials, construction choices and other information you enter into a parametric design. The service does not survey your property, measure the actual boards you buy, identify concealed services or decide whether a design is suitable for every site, load, regulation, tool or hardware system. You must enter complete and accurate information and correct it if it changes.
The interactive 3D view helps you understand the design. Camera position, animation, lighting and appearance are illustrative. Manufacturing dimensions come from the canonical design and manufacturing model, not from measuring the 3D image.
5. Saved designs, revisions and Manufacturing Packs
You may save designs against your customer account. When a Manufacturing Pack is generated, it is bound to an immutable design revision and manufacturing identity. Editing the design afterwards creates a different revision; it does not alter an issued pack. A pack may include component dimensions, quantities, materials, edge treatments, connection information, drawings and other outputs enabled for that Designer.
You must inspect the whole pack before manufacture and complete the separate Manufacturing Verification. If anything is inconsistent, incomplete or unclear, stop and contact us before cutting or machining. A pack does not certify your workshop setup, site, material batch or third-party hardware. The Manufacturing Pack Terms and Verification Notice explain this allocation in full. Nothing in those checks excuses an error for which Benchdogs is legally responsible.
6. Design Credits and Shopify payments
Design Credits are a Platform entitlement used to generate eligible outputs. They are not cash, Shopify Store Credit or a bank product. The applicable Designer cost is shown before redemption and recorded with the transaction. Re-downloading the same entitled revision does not use another credit; generating for a changed manufacturing revision normally requires a new redemption. Purchases and checkout use the existing Benchdogs Shopify store and are also subject to the applicable Shopify store terms. Details appear in the Design Credit Terms.
7. Your manufacturing and installation responsibilities
Before manufacture you must check overall and component dimensions, quantities, materials, actual material thickness, edge treatments, fixing positions and the fit of the intended project. Select tools, cutters, jigs, screws, connectors, hinges, runners and fittings appropriate to your material and application, and follow their manufacturers’ current instructions. Check site dimensions, levels, squareness, structure, services, ventilation, clearances and installation conditions. Electrical, gas, plumbing, structural and other regulated work must be carried out or checked by a suitably competent or qualified person where required.
8. Intellectual property and generated files
You retain rights you already hold in the measurements, choices and original project information you submit. You give us permission to process that information to operate the Platform, save your designs and generate requested outputs. Benchdogs retains rights in the Platform, software, catalogues, templates, document layouts, branding and underlying design logic. Your permitted use of generated files is set out in the Generated Files Licence. No transfer of Benchdogs software or platform logic occurs.
9. Acceptable use, availability and changes
You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy. We may apply proportionate limits, investigate misuse, suspend access where reasonably necessary for security or abuse prevention, or close access after material breach. Where practicable we will explain the reason and provide a route to challenge a decision.
We aim to make the Platform available but do not promise uninterrupted operation. Maintenance, security work, external-provider incidents and improvements may affect availability. We may change features or supported Designers. Changes will not alter an already-issued immutable Manufacturing Pack, completed credit redemption or accrued statutory right. Material changes to these terms will be versioned and brought to your attention before a new acceptance is required.
10. Errors, remedies and responsibility
Tell us promptly if you find an apparent error. Preserve the relevant revision, pack and supporting information and do not manufacture the affected part until the issue is understood. We will investigate whether the issue arose from the Platform, customer inputs, changed materials, third-party instructions or use outside the stated scope. Responsibility and any remedy will be assessed fairly on the facts and applicable law.
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of terms implied by law that cannot be excluded, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. We do not exclude the obligation to provide consumer digital content and services with the quality and care required by law. Business-only limitations, if agreed after solicitor review, will appear only in the Business/Trade Supplement.
11. Closing an account
You may ask us to close your Platform account. We will remove or anonymise information where applicable while retaining records required for contracts, credit ledgers, fraud prevention, legal claims, audit evidence and issued manufacturing artifacts. Closing an account does not create a cash right in unused non-refundable credits, but statutory refund and remedy rights remain unaffected.
12. International use, law, complaints and contact
The Platform is operated from the United Kingdom. If you use it elsewhere, you are responsible for local product, building, safety, tax and professional requirements, while mandatory protections of your home jurisdiction may still apply. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Consumers may also have rights to bring proceedings in the part of the UK where they live; the international consumer position requires solicitor confirmation before production use.
For support or a complaint, use contact@benchdogs.co.uk and follow the Support and Complaints Policy. Privacy questions may be sent to hello@benchdogs.co.uk. Our website is benchdogs.co.uk. Nothing in these terms affects statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
